Television in Bratsk: BST & TRK Bratsk.

The first broadcast in 1963, the Soviet studio and today’s two local television newsrooms: how Bratsk learned to tell its own stories on screen.

6 November: the city sees itself on screen

Bratsk’s first local television programme aired on 6 November 1963. Testing and adjustments continued through the year, with regular broadcasting beginning on 1 January 1964. The construction city gained a screen of its own: new homes, schools, factories and residents became local news.

First chief director Yuri Ryasensky recalled the television centre and its 180-metre tower. Specialists came from several cities. Galina Telyatnikova and Yuri Arkhipov were the first announcers, supported by engineers, sound staff and camera operators.

News, animation, documentaries and feature films shared the early schedule, creating a common experience for neighbourhoods separated by long distances.

Cameras on the construction site

Much early studio programming was live. For filmed reports, crews brought back material from construction sites to be processed and prepared for broadcast. Travelling across Bratsk was itself part of production.

In TRK’s anniversary series, Valentina Oblomkova recalled writing scripts and filming science, engineering and invention stories with a camera operator in 1975. She also remembered operator Alexei Kazakov, presenter Galina Telyatnikova and Rimma Karakozova.

The original Soviet studio was closed from 1 January 1976. A correspondent bureau continued supplying regional television. This earlier history should be distinguished from the foundation dates of later companies.

TRK Bratsk and Fakt

TRK Bratsk developed with the revival of city broadcasting in the 1990s. Its Fakt news programme became particularly recognisable. Elena Kutergina’s historical feature describes the newsroom, editing rooms, studios, advertising and radio production as one working team.

The television centre occupied the former Avrora cinema. The article profiles Yekaterina Polunina, Valery Gagarin, camera operator Mikhail Kuznetsov and director Olga Novosyolova, who joined in 1994. Alexander Yevstigneyev worked there before becoming a Channel One correspondent.

Historical programmes included Okrug v Tsentre Vnimaniya, Kislorod and Vkusnye Istorii, alongside social projects. Current editions and video archives are available on TRK’s own website.

Modern BST and BST24

The contemporary Bratsk Television Studio states that the company was created in 2001. The name recalls the earlier broadcasting history, while the organisational date is distinct. Its news appears under BST branding and its channel is called BST24.

The website provides reporting, video, archives, comments and a live-channel page. A city story remains searchable after its original broadcast, making the archive useful for following changes in streets, industry, culture and sport.

BST and TRK Bratsk are separate newsrooms. Their credits are kept separate here. Visiting both archives also reveals changes in presentation, studios and the people appearing on local television.
