Sports teams of Bratsk.

Sibiryak football, Metallurg bandy and today’s sports-school teams: the city’s club history from factory stadiums to youth tournaments.

Sibiryak: the football club

Bratsk’s Sibiryak competed in Soviet and Russian championships. Names and organisations changed over time; 1967 is commonly used as the beginning of the club’s lineage. Later professional home matches were played at Metallurg Stadium.

The eastern second division brought opponents from Irkutsk, Krasnoyarsk, Barnaul, Novokuznetsk and the Far East. Match records preserve dates, line-ups and results. Professional participation ended in 2014 amid financial problems.

Fyodor Kudryashov became a leading graduate. The Russian Football Union records his professional debut for Sibiryak in 2003, before his national-team and World Cup career. He has a separate article on this site.

Metallurg: bandy on the big ice

The Metallurg bandy club was created at the Bratsk aluminium plant in 2000. It played at Metallurg Stadium, reached the top division and became a prominent city sporting project of the early 2000s. Bandy is played with a ball on a large ice field, distinct from ice hockey.

Bratsk reached the Russian championship play-offs in 2004/05. A contemporary 2005/06 team guide lists players including Boris Vavilov and Yevgeny Yevstigneyev. The senior team ceased competing in 2008.

Plant workers’ recollections describe preparing ice and organising matches as well as playing. Corporate support sustained a winter spectacle and a community of supporters.

The name lives on in youth football

The professional club’s closure did not end football. Sibiryak remains a sports-school and youth-team name. Different age groups compete separately, so tables may contain several Sibiryak sides identified by birth year.

The Bratsk Cup on 19–21 June 2026 brought together forty-two regional teams, with players born between 2014 and 2020 and a separate mothers’ tournament. BST interviewed Sibiryak school director Yevgeny Kharlanov.

The club story now includes a network of youth teams, coaches and families. Regular play, travel and development matter alongside tournament placings.

Ice hockey, Rekord and Ilim Sport Arena

Modern local sport also includes ice hockey. The city sports facilities directorate’s March 2026 calendar lists the Rekord sports school’s open youth championship at Ilim Sport Arena in the Central district, marking the end of the winter season.

School and amateur teams have their own age groups and calendars. They are distinct from the historical Metallurg bandy club. This article separates former professional clubs from present sports-school activity.

Olimp’s luge tradition has its own article, covering individual and relay achievements. Links below lead to that section and Kudryashov’s biography.
