1962–1989

After the shift: screen and stage.

The industrial city had its own audiences, photographers, actors and cultural links abroad.

01

The city looks at itself

The television centre’s first test broadcasts date to November 1962. In 1968 the Bratsk photo club held its first exhibition at Lesokhimik. Alongside industrial milestones, residents were creating images, shared memories and ways of describing their city.

02

Two distinct theatres

The puppet theatre opened on 28 October 1968 with Merry Little Bears. The drama theatre arrived much later: The Relay premiered in Padun on 26 February 1986. These are separate histories of companies, buildings and first productions, not merely different audiences.

03

From the local screen to Japan

Bagulnik cinema opened in 1988 and Era in Energetik in 1989, bringing perestroika-era films into everyday life. International civic ties began earlier: Bratsk and Japan’s Nanao signed a sister-city agreement on 11 December 1970. The Siberian city was never confined entirely to its own construction project.
