The place and its history
The settlement grew from the dam project’s right-bank base, developing from 1955. Production sites, homes and rail links created a separate centre across the Angara.
Gidrostroitel is also a railway-station name adopted in 1961. The station, residential area and whole Right Bank are connected but distinct places, an important distinction when reading accounts of journeys and relocation.
