The place and its history
The settlement developed beside railways and construction and forestry enterprises. It became a workers’ settlement in 1960; in 1963 Anzeba was renamed Chekanovsky after the Siberian explorer Alexander Chekanovsky.
Its later history includes the smelter’s sanitary protection zone and resident relocation. This historical entry makes no claim about the current housing stock or whether resettlement is complete.
