Lower and Upper settlements; Novo-Porozhsky — historical names
The place and its history
Porozhsky lies by Sukhoy Log Bay. Its development combined timber enterprises and resettlement from the future reservoir zone. Its official founding date is 27 December 1960, although settlement began earlier.
In 1959–1961 homes and institutions were moved here from old Bratsk and other places facing flooding. The hurried relocation included a school, club and other essential community buildings.
