Residential area / Padun District

Padun.

A name preserving the memory of the Angara rapids and old village.

Old and new Padun are different historical sites

The place and its history

Padun’s name long predates the dam project. The old village lay in the future reservoir zone; a new permanent settlement began in 1956 above the water level. It housed construction management and, for a time, the city administration.

Padun connects rural Angara history with the builders’ world. Old photographs and recollections therefore need a precise location and date: old Padun and new Padun are not interchangeable.
